Exploring Science & History at Cranbrook

This spring, lower school students are enjoying hands-on learning through field trips. On April 23, third graders had the opportunity to visit Cranbrook Institute of Science. The day was filled with exploration and meaningful connections to topics we’ve been studying in the classroom. Students began their journey by stepping back in time to explore Native American life. They had the unique opportunity to visit a wigwam and learn about how Indigenous peoples lived and worked. The class also explored the history of the fur traders. Students were especially curious about the items brought over by the first Europeans and how those goods influenced trade, survival, and relationships during that time period. One of the highlights of the trip was a presentation at the planetarium focused on Earth’s changing climate. The field trip was a blend of history, science, and exploration, deepening students’ understanding of key concepts and inspiring curiosity and excitement for learning.
