Extracting DNA

Science classes are full of moments of seeing the world around us, the world we so often can take for granted, with fresh eyes. Biology students spend the year exploring living systems. While elementary students practice memorizing the parts of the cell and are quizzed on cell diagrams. Those same concepts come to life as the students proceed through their academic careers. Freshman biology class extracted DNA from their own cheek cells by breaking down the cells from nuclear membranes with detergent and spooling the released DNA on glass rods.
