Football Team Camp in CT

The EC football team travelled to Cheshire, Connecticut for a football camp from June 16-20. The camp was held at the Legionaries of Christ Novitiate and College of Humanities. Thirty boys from the team, along with seven chaperones, made the trip out east. While in Cheshire, the team had a chance to conduct football drills, go to the beach, participate in a basketball tournament (with the winner getting free ice cream at a popular ice cream parlor in Cheshire), visit New York City, and get to know the seminarians there studying for the priesthood. There were also moments of spiritual growth during the trip. The team had Mass each day, time for personal prayer, and a scripture discussion led by a few seminarians.

Kyle Westlake, a junior on the team, said about the trip, “Overall, I believe the trip was a worthwhile experience that showed the importance of the core values of the football team. Those values being truth, brotherhood, and spirit.” Isaac Cross, a senior on the team added, “The Cheshire camp was a great experience for me. I was able to talk with a lot of seminarians and priests and get to know their daily lives and their personalities. I also saw a big growth in our team becoming closer as brothers and learned what it means to be a team.”

Coach Mike Pruchnicki shared his impression on the experience; “Overall, the trip to Cheshire was an amazing I was excited to take the football team out to the seminary. It went better than expected. There were many highlights including New York City and the ocean, but the one that stood out the most was having the team spend time with the priests and seminarians and gain much appreciation for their calling to the priesthood and to Regnum Christi. I am hopeful we can make this an tradition for years to come.”
