Preparing Hearts and Homes

Hope, peace, joy and love - these are the prayers for each of our families this Advent season. For the second year in a row, the Everest Parent Program organized the Advent Wreath Potluck. Twenty-two Everest families came together in a relaxed environment for a simple potluck, socializing, sharing Advent traditions, wreath making, and Advent preparations. With a little effort to get our kids from playing with their friends, families built their wreaths and had them blessed by Fr. Thomas. A special thank you goes out to Bordine's of Clarkston for donating greens this year. Professional photographs were also available, provided by Paula Kurzawa, for some special gifts or pictures for greeting cards.

Traditionally, Advent wreaths are constructed of a circle of evergreen branches into which four candles are inserted, representing the four weeks of Advent. The progressive lighting of the candles symbolizes the expectation and hope surrounding our Lord’s first coming into the world and the anticipation of his second coming to judge the living and the dead.
