Lucy is also a great role model for her classmates and helps them by giving kind reminders to do the right thing and make responsible choices. She demonstrates self-discipline by completing her work on time, staying patient when things are difficult, controlling distractions, listening respectfully, and persevering instead of giving up. Corey Haezebrouck and Julia Flynn

'"Do you know why I encourage you to do your homework and do you best in school? So that when you are an adult, you will be better able to serve others.' These were the wise words spoken by Father Tom Firestone. Father Firestone was the former pastor of St. John Vianney Catholic Parish in Flint. During almost every homily given to the school, Father Firestone stressed the importance of kids doing their homework and put forth their best effort in all they do. Father knew that through completing homework and putting forth your best effort, you not only gain the virtue of self-discipline, but you’re then able to use that virtue to “be better able to serve others.” Having probably never met Father Firestone, Corey Haezebrouck and Julia Flynn understand the importance of self-discipline and apply it to everything they do. Both students complete their assignments, review graded work in an effort to learn and improve, are attentive in class, do the right thing even when no one is looking, and use their virtuous gift to serve others. It is with honor that I nominate Corey Haezebrouck and Julia Flynn as this month’s Mountaineers of the Month." -Mrs. Motyka, Fourth-Grade Teacher

Joseph Heller

"Joseph consistently demonstrates exceptional self-discipline in the classroom. He stays focused on his work, follows directions without needing frequent reminders, and takes responsibility for his learning and behavior. Even when faced with distractions or challenges, Joey remains committed to doing his best and completing all of his tasks. His ability to manage his time, make positive choices, and stay on task sets a wonderful example for his classmates." -Miss Guaderrama, Fourth-Grade Teacher

Margaret Green

"Margaret is an excellent student that knows what is expected of her, and she completes her work without hesitation. Everything she does is done with grace and punctuality. Maggie is a student who goes above and beyond and sets a wonderful example for her classmates and the school environment. Her actions reflect virtue and strong character. She stays focused on her work, manages her time wisely, and maintains her place of work clean and organized." -Miss Guaderrama, Fourth-Grade Teacher

"Max demonstrates constant preparedness throughout each school day. His work is clear and accurate; his cubbies and desk are clean and organized; and he always works diligently." -Mr. Sapienza, Fifth-Grade Teacher
